An airborne gravity data set has been acquired across New Zealand to improve the national geoid model. Collected over an eight-month period, New Zealand’s airborne gravity survey has provided a uniform and nationally consistent map of the local gravity field for the first time.
An overview of the gravity flight data collection and processing procedures is provided. The resulting data is then evaluated to assess its quality for inclusion in the updated New Zealand Geoid 2016 (NZGeoid2016).
